VEX IQ robotics seesions.
this is a 4 days program, each day participants will have two hours class to learn about robotics, electronics and coding using VEX IQ robotic kit.
Onsite session aims to deliver the knowledge of robot's control and the history behind robotics, in order to introduce the participant to the ways robots interact and behave with the surrounding environment through sensors and actuators.
This lesson has been developed based on project/ problem based learning, that’s mean that the kids will have a problem and they need to solve it in a practical way by making their own projects. In the beginning of the lesson introduce a problem to them, and ask them about the possible solutions. I recommend to mention something related to the sustainable development goals – SDG- if it possible such as topics related to health, education, climate change, food, etc.
Ice braking activity.
Let’s find out what we already know.
Ask participant to
•Write down everything they already know about robots and robotics?
•Can you give examples of robots that you already know about?
Curiosity is a car-sized Mars rover designed to explore the Gale crater on Mars as part of NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory mission.
Curiosity was launched from Florida on November 26, 2011, and landed on Aeolis Palus inside Gale on Mars on August 6, 2012.
here you can display a video about robotics
Next: Ask them to use the laptop and make a research about the below:
they should write their results on A4 paper and draw the robot
Discuss with each group the robot they chose
Mix all participants and assign a new groups, give each participants a name like A or B or C or D then till all A participants to join a table, B participants, C, and D.
so each group will have a name such A,B,C, or D.
In this class, participants will learn more about robotics brain and microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators to develop the base bot robot and make a new claw robot.
In this onsite session participants will get introduces to VEX IQ sensors, gyroscope, LED, touch, color, distance sensors, and bumper switch, and learn what is the functionality of each sensor, then they continue developing their claw robots by integrating all sensors to get the claw bot with sensors.
On the last day, participants will get introduced to new software – VEX Code IQ and learn about Code blocks, then they will learn how to configure devices such as sensors in order to use them and control their robots with a code.
