Summary

In this workshop students will learn to make a solar cap.

Students learn about Solar Energy creating their own solar cap. Students will study the solar energy, solar Panel & use of solder gun. In this lesson, students will conceptualize and then turn their ideas into real-life models.

What You'll Need

Solar panel 3V

-Fan

– Motor

– Wires

– Celotape

– Glue gun &glue stick

The Instructions

Discuss with students about sources of energy.

https://www.studentenergy.org/topics/renewable-energy

Discuss with students about all renewable & non-renewable energy resources.

Start discussion about why to use renewable energy?

Tell them advantages of using solar energy.

Discuss how to convert solar energy into electricity.

teacher note- Tell them brief concepts of Solar Panels & how solar energy convert into electricity by using Solar Panels, what are the ratings of solar panels. In summer season there are lots of heat & light is available. We can made solar cap for surviving in summer from heat when we are outside of home.

Show them video of how exactly solar panel works, components or material involved in solar panel

Cut the cap for attaching toy motor & Fan

Take measurement of fan & how much space for mounting the motor. After this cut the cap.

Discuss with students on the idea of solar cap in which using solar panel fan turns on.

Make connections of all components.

See connection diagram from attachment.

make sure students make connection & soldering properly.

After connection introduces them solar panel & other electronics component.

Let’s Start assemble it.

Do connection as per connection diagram provided

Now Test solar cap.

Teacher note- Encourage students to do solar cap testing by going out side the room. Students will observe how fan speed is varying according to sunlight falling on the solar panel

Standards

  • (MS-ETS1-1): Define the criteria and constraints of a design problem with sufficient precision to ensure a successful solution, taking into account relevant scientific principles and potential impacts on people and the natural environment that may limit possible solutions.
  • (MS-ETS1-2): Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
