In this lesson, students will use the engineering design process to make an item that promotes an environmental or social justice message. The students will research an area of interest and create a variety of designs to share out a positive message in support of their cause.
For this lesson you can use any digital fabrication tool including vinyl cutter or laser cutter.
Students can make any type of item such as t-shirt, keychain, mug, etc.
You can decide what type of item to make or let the students decide how they want to share their message.
At the end of this lesson students will be able to use the engineering design process and digital fabrication tools to create an item that brings attention to a social or environmental justice issue.
While it can be challenging to make a unique design, digital fabrication tools are a great motivator for students to engage in complex global issues.
Student use the attached template as a guide to complete the project
The template follows steps of the engineering design process from brainstorming to final production and reflection.
