In this lesson, students will create an animal using the basic shapes found in TinkerCAD. Students will construct their animals using paper and pencil before transferring their compositions to TinkerCAD. Upon completion of their compositions, students will export their files and email them to their instructor for 3D printing.

The instructor will show a picture of a geometrically constructed animal and will challenges students to identify the different shapes that compose the animal.
Once students identify the shapes, the instructor will show any remaining shapes that the students were not able to identify.
Students will be instructed to sketch an animal found in the wild using only the shapes that can be found in TinkerCad. After the sketch is completed, students will then recreate their design on the computer using Tinkercad.
After completing their sketches and designs in TinkerCad, each student will be given the opportunity to share their creation with the class. The remaining students will be given the opportunity to comment on each other’s work. Students will then be given the opportunity to implement any changes they see fit.
Students will submit their TinkerCad files in the assignment folder for the instructor to 3D print their design.
Students will then use their sketches and their TinkerCad to create a 3D version of their design using a 3D Pen.
Upon receiving their 3D creature, students will be given the opportunity to compare their 3D printed design to their 3D pen design. Students will then share both their designs with their classmates and discuss whether or not they will make any further revisions. Time being permitted, students will have the opportunity to recreate their designs and resubmit them for 3D printing.
