Summary

Students will design their own avatar from a template and chose a quote that means something to them. The avatar and quote have been engraved on leather journals in the photos for this lesson, but can also be made into a keychain, medal, locker magnet, etc.

What You'll Need

Laser

Laser material (wood, acrylic, journals, etc)

Avatar Template

Worksheets (optional): Design your own Avatar, Pick a Meaningful Quote

The Instructions

Intro

Introduce project to your students

Have students complete the design your own avatar and pick a meaningful quote worksheets

Design your own Avatar, Pick a Meaningful Quote

Design

Use CAD software to design

Using the avatar template corel file, have your students drag and drop to create their own avatar. They can then use the avatar and add their quote and scale their design to fit the journal, keychain or medal design that they will be making.

If your students are young, or do not yet know how to use Corel, you can use their worksheets to create their design for them.

Fabricate

Create your objects!

Have students use the laser to engrave their avatar and quote.

Alternative: You could also have students edit the design to be cut on a vinyl cutter to make a sticker, heat press vinyl image to add to a shirt or back pack, etc

Write

Write

If you have students create journals, you can have their first entry be about why they chose the quote they did and what it means to them.
