Summary

Bio Matters is a workshop committed to delving into the potential of bio-materials. Our journey involved experimenting with various recipes to harness the diverse properties of organic materials. Among our explorations were eggshells, coffee, and starch.

After extensive testing, we discovered that coffee waste stood out as an excellent material for educating participants about bio-materials due to specific properties: its capacity to harden significantly upon drying, its tactile and earthy texture, and its ability to withstand high temperatures, last participants loved the smell of coffee during the workshop!

For this workshop we created a mold with the shape of a coaster. Find the 3D file attached.

The Instructions

Let's learn about bio-materials

What are we going to do today?

Different types of bio materials

What bio-materials are you already using?

Advantages and limitations of bio materials

What products are already made using bio-materials?

- Blast studio - 3D printing of bio materials, mostly focused on forniture design - You Yang Song / Alice Pots - more artist approach and small productions of products - Precious Plastic - A set of machines that allows to recycle plastics and make it into products. The all process is realized in open source. - Curface - Startup creating products out of coffee grounds. - MOKA - Filament made out of coffe waste, developed by LOWPOLY

Let's start the making!

Preparation of the mold

Making of the bio-plastic

For this step you will need a microwave or access to a stove.
