Students are introduced to the usage of vinyl cutter to design a cell organelle. Through which students will be more familiarized with the process of designing using CAD software like Inkscape and printing using CAM like cricut.
The printed organelle would be used to describe its unique features as well as to explain its function.
Vinyl sheet
Mitochondria or other cell organelle design
Design software (Inkscape)
Vinyl cutter
Scissors and weeding tools
Transfer paper
At this step, the students will choose an organelle which interests them in an animal cell.
Identify an organelle from an animal cell.
Upon importing the image to Inkscape, the image has to be converted from Rastor format to vector format.
We will send the design file saved in svg format to the cricut softaware. Upon uploading the image to cricut, proceed to send the job. Follow the instructions which appear on the screen . Prior to loading the material (vinyl), ensure that the correct dimensions, and the correct material (permanent) vinyl is chosen. Ensure that the pressure is indicated as default settings. 1. Load material (vinyl) on a mat and load into machine 2. Offload once design is etched and message appears to offload 3. Use the cutter to cut the image to the desired length 4. Peel off the "negative" of the image using the hand tools 5. Transfer to a transfer film 6. Sticker is ready
