A blog is a great place for a community of practice to hear its members through their words, images, and videos. Although we are a distributed community we are interconnected – much like the Leadership Cohort was literally so in its recent Boston launch event!
Below I’ve re-shared some thoughts from our workshop on how we can frame our collective practice in terms of writing blogs. Of course this is not a definitive list, so I invite any and all thoughts in the comments section below.
BE CONSTRUCTIVE The SCOPES-DF blog is a support tool to help us build our community of practice. Remember – always build up!
KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE BUT BE YOURSELF Answer the question: who will be reading your posts? Now consider how you can shape your voice so they will most clearly hear your ideas.
THINK BIG BUT BE CONCISE Blogs are not emails or text messages, nor are they term papers or dissertations.
EMBRACE DIGITAL MEDIA Incorporate links, show pictures, include videos, and create simple diagrams to support your writing.
BE RELEVANT AND BE SPECIFIC Stick to topics that the community is addressing and include details that situate them.
BE NICE Keep blog posts and comments light in tone and respect all opinions.
BLOG OFTEN The best blogs are constantly being refreshed – here’s to keeping ours fresh!
